American Healthcare
02:38
|
|||
It comes in the mail the end of the month
The opposite of having some fun
Like Wasting away my hard earned money and stress
Like pissing away whatever I get
He said he would fix it, he didn't for me or anyone already in a plan
I'm trying to decide who's ripping us off
It must be the hospitals just look at their bills
I needed a Band-aid they charge by the box
1,200 per I'm covered for none
He said he would fix it he didn't for me
Instead I'm getting less and paying more
American healthcare as bad as it gets
A choice of insurance in my state there's none
Either pay way too much or roll the dice
a 1 and a 5 but snake eyes to them
He said he would fix it he didn't for me
He busted up group plans and made them reapply
But now their plan sucks-expensive as hell
the grade I give so far is out of hand

You give your heart to few when I'm away
When I get home you cancel your appointments and play
You only have a little time to make for me
You have corporations you must oversee
Give me the key to your apartment and I will stay
I know I take a chance that you won't come home anyway
Call me up at lunch and tell me where you are
I'll join you there and I will tell you about my trip to Mars
I travel the solar system thinking about you Elektra
All the heavenly bodies suit your company
I catalog the galaxies thinking about you Elektra
When I come to conclusions I think of you positively
The balance is swayed in the confusion
When we get home you can review them
You can let your hair down and relax
Skip the editorials, get down to facts

Quarter One
02:47
|

Quarter one very few decisions made
Not a sense of urgency in month three
Lucky me, there's nothing new I gotta do for a couple more months
Still need to recover from the bruises that were caused by the previous year
Quarter one
It starts slow especially the cash flow
Usually the bank account is fully drawn
We've got different views we disagree and fight on how to build up the cushion that I want
We're not sure we'll ever get back to the bustle of the great boom years
Quarter one
In quarter one like at the start of every
NBA game I watch it barely matters
But soon enough you're losing ground you're overwhelmed because you didn't have a plan
Rent is due and payroll too
You wish you didn't slack off from the 1st of the year in quarter one

Twenty Two Months
02:30
|
|||
Pancakes out on the porch, ice cream from the night before
You're quiet but we're alright
Two hours to Union Station, it feels like we're on vacation
But you're going all alone
22 months and 3 weeks with breaks in between
I'll wait for you, Coleen
You turn and wave to me , shaking visibly
It's a while but we'll be fine
Your hair a tragedy, you smile from the window seat
As the train speeds away
22 months and 3 weeks with breaks in between
I'll wat for you, Coleen
Remember that day we spent in Maine
We drove for hours and it started to rain
And the sky opened up all big and blue and wide
We watched it arc from side to side
And you slipped your hand in mine
22 months and 3 weeks with breaks in between
I'll wait for you, Coleen
I know you'll wait for me

If You Want Me
03:48
|
|||
If you want me to be someone you like, let me know
If you want me to listen while you talk- piece of cake
I ca build an addition to my house and you can make all the big decisions
If you want be to be someone you like
When you're bored and you start to look around, I can tell
I can lie but you're bound to figure out every word I didn't mean
When i saw what you picked up off the floor and wiped it off and shoved it in your 8 year old's mouth- he was hungry
If you want me to be someone you like
If you want me to be someone you like
If you want me to listen while you talk
I can build an extension my house
If you want me to be someone you like...

A turn of phrase that turned my head
Led me out of a nameless dread
To illuminate and edify
Gifts unseen, complex, sublime
With hazel eyes and chestnut hair
And a heart that's true, beyond compare
I'm beside myself to think that I
Will finally let you know this time
The depth of feeling inside of me
Is belied by the countenance you see
Volumes of dedications fill my lungs
But circumstance won't let them past my tongue
The moment passed without a word
The saddest song you never heard

Shedding

The way Annie shed hair, you would think she'd be bald
It was everywhere I looked around that hotel room
We were paid up 'til the end of the month
Even though she'd been gone nearly a week
And I thought to try and find her
But if she doesn't want to be found, she won't be found
Solitaire on the bed with Casino punch cards
A sign on the knob says,"Do not disturb"
I'll watch the fight on the shitty TV
If he falls by the 3rd, we'll have piles of money
And I'll call your mean stepfather
And he'll know where I can find you if you can be found
Annie don't give up our baby
Annie don't give up our baby
Somehow we'll find the money
Oh, Annie don't give up

Sequel To Clint

It hurts to write the story, the story is told
The last thing i remember it was 8 years ago
Very few observed as they emerged from the ruins
The promises from '86 had all of us fooled
Now they're back and you know I ought to know
Yeah, they're bad and even worse on the road
They'll be back maybe sooner than you think
Then New York will do the bandwagon thing
Got rid of all my favorites like Lenny and Sid
The deal for Saberhagen turned to nothing but shit
Games in late September I was watching alone
the coverage in the papers was at least a day old

A litany of inconsequence paraded out as news
While in shadows and back rooms the future's decided for you
To watch the news you'd that there was nothing more amiss
Than celebrity indiscretions and arguments over where we should piss
You tell more about yourself by what you choose not to say
Your version of events will always be something I won't take
The tongue is a flame and it's growing higher
A glowing hearth or a funeral pyre
With the power to both comfort and immolate
There'll come a time when you'll think you've won
But there's something that you won't see coming
When you opt to lie and obfuscate

Cable's down water pressure is light
Lonely sad Port Antonio night
Car broke down at the very worst time
Funds are low and now his health is bad
So he walks downtown and he barely makes it back up the hill.
Left his job at a Canada bank
Said his choice but he probably got canned
Moved to a 3rd world Jamaican town
Made no friends but the enemies came
Extra special treat catch the Blue Jays on game of the week.
San San's roads are like an earthquake hit
He was the one who made sure they got fixed
Now with no car he doesn't seem to mind
The others in town haven't taken up the task
Instead they drive in circles as the potholes continue to grow.
But the Kingston girls are the prettiest I've ever seen
Think I'll grab one and I'll bring her back to North Jersey.
Bathtub's black though originally blue
My one guess is it never gets used
Plays with pets but it wouldn't be fair, to put a tank of goldfish in his care
It wouldn't take long 'til there's wet guppies dead on the floor

I'm compiling a list of the things you gave me
Two books and a light and some things you can't see
A cynical eye and an optimist's heart
And a heightened sense of the impermanence of things
How could this be me?
Muscles tense and slack and tremor
Thoughts that aren't mine
Seethe from a rage that I can't temper
I was at a complete loss as to what I could say
Watched helpless as you were slowly stolen away
A question that's passed down from mother to son-
"What am I gonna do when my shock time comes?"

Pot Kettle Black
04:17
|
|||
Crazy rides rockets
Who has a magic wand
Empty out your pockets
Words without a song
I myself have found a real rival in myself
I am hoping for the re-arrival of my health
Sleeping eye sockets
Baby suck your thumb
I'll keep you in my locket
A string I never strum
It's become so obvious
You are so oblivious to yourself
You're tied in a knot
But I'm not gonna get caught
Calling a pot kettle black
Every song's a comeback
Every moment's a little bit later
Crazy locomotives
Wherever you may roll
I think you have no motive
I know you have no home
It's become so obvious
You are so oblivious to yourself

To, For And Because
03:59
|
|||
We knew a time
When it seemed that you and I would be equal
To anything that could possibly transpire
There was nothing we couldn't face side by side
But hope deferred
It bowed and withdrew
Left us on our own
Standing there without a word
Under the unrelenting weight of the world
Left bereft of all that we once held as dear
I know that there's more but I just can't see clear
To where intent and circumstance align
I know that all the promises weren't lies
There's more to life
Every hour adds a line
To the book of ours- it's yours and mine
Every burden is lighter shared
The highs are higher knowing you're there
Everything that we've been through
Has all been worth it
Just to be here with you
